CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

The purpose of this post is to develop the learning and teaching of academic writing at Nelson Mandela University through conceptualising and implementing various programmes that facilitates the learning and teaching of academic writing, ensuring students understand and uphold academic integrity.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • To facilitate the learning and teaching of academic writing competencies amongst students and staff at the Nelson Mandela University
  • To present specialist lectures/workshops on different aspects of academic writing
  • To liaise closely with lecturers regarding the writing competency skills required for specific disciplines.
  • To promote the use and development of Open Education Resources by staff and students
  • To develop academic literacy and writing resources for online platforms.
  • To conduct research that advances academic literacies discourse

CORE COMPETENCIES

 
  • Sound knowledge of academic literacies competence, latest developments in the field, and the academic literacy needs of students.
  • Skills in facilitating writing/language development
  • To sustain on open communication style with students and staff
  • Material development for digital online and general academic literacies use
  • To promote the activities of the Academic Literacies Writing Programme
  • Research and administrative skills
 

REQUIREMENTS

 

In order to be considered for appointment to this post, candidates should have complied with the following requirements:

  • M+4 higher education qualification, with an emphasis on languages/language education
  • Have at least two years’ experience lecturing English at a higher education level and/or being an Academic Literacy Practitioner, in which competency has been gained.
