We are looking for a Group Head of Corporate Reporting and Tax for our client in Pretoria.
Core Description
The Head of Corporate Reporting and Tax will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial reporting and tax compliance within the organisation. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills to ensure the company's financial integrity and compliance with local and international tax regulations.
Job Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting:
- Lead the preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with IFRS and local GAAP.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory reporting requirements.
- Develop and implement robust financial reporting processes and controls.
- Collaborate with internal and external auditors to facilitate audits and ensure the integrity of financial data.
- Oversee the end-to-end reporting calendar and coordination with internal teams, auditors, and external stakeholders.
- Support investor relations and board reporting through relevant and timely corporate disclosures.
- Tax Strategy and Compliance:
- Develop and implement the company's tax strategy, ensuring compliance with local and international tax laws.
- Manage tax planning and reporting activities to optimise tax efficiency.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of all tax returns and related documentation.
- Liaise with tax authorities and external advisors to address tax-related issues and opportunities.
- Leadership and Management:
- Lead and mentor a team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Collaborate with senior management to align financial and tax strategies with business objectives.
- Provide strategic insights and recommendations to the executive team based on financial analysis and tax implications.
- ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance):
- Drive the development and execution of the Group’s ESG reporting strategy in line with global frameworks (e.g., GRI, TCFD, ISSB, SASB, UN SDGs).
- Oversee ESG data collection, assurance, and reporting processes across business units.
- Collaborate with sustainability, risk, and operations teams to embed ESG into the Group’s strategy and reporting.
- Manage the ESG reporting requirements of investors, regulators, and ratings agencies.
- Mergers and Acquisitions
- Build and maintain complex financial models to support investment decisions, scenario planning, and valuations.
- Oversee valuations of subsidiaries, assets, and investment projects.
- Support asset impairment testing and fair value assessments.
- Contribute to long-term financial planning and strategy development.
- Provide strategic insight and analysis to the Board, EXCO, and investment committees.
- Ensure compliance with corporate governance, listing requirements, and internal investment policies.
- Risk Management:
- Identify and mitigate financial and tax risks through proactive management and strategic planning.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in tax legislation.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, tax authorities, and financial institutions.
- Communicate complex financial and tax concepts clearly and effectively to non-financial stakeholders.
Functional Knowledge
- Extensive experience in financial reporting, analysis, and leadership roles, preferably within the agriculture sector.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop a high-performing team
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders
- Exceptional knowledge of ESG reporting
- Proficiency in financial software and tools, such as Excel, Caseware and AS400 or similar platforms.
Functional Skills
- The candidate should possess strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, the ability to work collaboratively across departments and with senior management.
- They should be detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and quality.
- Adaptability and resilience in a dynamic business environment.
- Proficient in MS Office suite
Minimum Person Requirements
Qualifications
The candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. As well as a Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CFA, CPA, CA(SA))
Experience
The candidate should have 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in financial reporting, analysis, and leadership roles.
Special Requirements
- Valid driver's license
- Bilingual (English and Afrikaans) is advantageous.
- Located in Northern Gauteng and willing to travel for work

- Report Accuracy: Measurement of the precision and reliability of both internal and external financial reports, ensuring data integrity and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Reporting Timeliness: Assessment of the speed with which reports are prepared and delivered to stakeholders, supporting timely decision-making and compliance requirements.
- Compliance Rate: Evaluation of adherence to financial reporting standards and regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance across all reporting processes.
- Insight Generation: Tracking the number and quality of actionable insights generated from financial data, contributing to strategic decision support.
- KPI Development and Tracking: Monitoring the effectiveness of key performance indicators (KPIs) in measuring and tracking financial performance against strategic goals.
- Stakeholder Satisfaction: Assessment of stakeholder satisfaction with the reporting process, including feedback on report usefulness and clarity.
- Audit Findings: Tracking the number and severity of audit findings related to reporting processes, with a focus on resolving issues promptly.
- Team Performance: Evaluation of the reporting team's performance in terms of productivity, accuracy, and contribution to strategic initiatives.
