LOGISTICS MANAGER: MODERN TRADE AND EXPORTS This role will also help plan and drive growth evolution in the modern trade space, focusing on building the Direct to Store (DTS) profile and executing the Distribution Centre (DC) strategy for the top 1,000 stores. This is a national-level role with significant impact on the company’s footprint and market presence. This role will also be responsible for evaluating current export / cross border supply chain process, systems and execution, together with building the appropriate structure to support sustainable export growth. Key Accountabilities and Outputs Modern Trade Management, Exports and Business Planning • Develop and execute warehouse strategies to meet the specific needs of modern trade and export markets. • Build and maintain the Direct to Store (DTS) profile for modern trade, ensuring alignment with customer service standards. • Execute the DC strategy, focusing on the top 1,000 stores nationally, (including exports markets) ensuring seamless coordination between inventory, transportation, and customer expectations. • Collaborate closely with Sales and Customer teams to align warehouse processes with customer requirements and modern trade and export priorities to ensure structure fit for purpose. • Monitor and address service-level performance indicators specific to modern trade and exports such as On Time in Full (OTIF) and order accuracy. • Build relationship with modern trade stakeholders and export customers/markets. • Create clear order entries versus supply lead time dashboards to ensure modern trade and export services delivers visibility and execution to +95%. Adherence to the Health, Safety and Environmental Standards • Site housekeeping standards maintained and adhered to in line with the 5S Philosophy. • Ensure adherence to site safety standards as head of the Safety, Health, and Environmental Committee in line with the OSH Act. • Ensure the safe operation of vehicles in accordance with the Road Traffic Act within and outside of the Distribution Centre. • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and support a safe environment for employees, contractors, and visitors. Business Planning and Customer Service • Annual business plans developed to enable Customer Service. • Business plan rolled, understood and executed by relevant Employees and Contractors. • Customer Service indicators analysed and detailed plans developed to improve service levels. • Ensure internal and external review of business processes for alignment with business strategy. • Ensure that product quality is maintained and relevant stakeholders engaged. • Effectively handle Customer complaints and ensure corrective action taken. • Ensure Customers’ service package is aligned to activity, negotiated and communicated to Sales and Customers. • Manage elements that contribute to On Time in Full target achievement. Financial Management • Develop and manage budgets and financial forecasts for modern trade and exports logistics operations. • Minimise overtime and temporary employee usage. • Controls expenditure against budgets and forecasts. • Continuously seek financial optimisation opportunities in servicing the modern trade and export markets. • Weekly monitoring of general ledger accounts to ensure adherence to budget and forecasts. • Monthly financial performance analysed; necessary plans put in place to correct if required with detailed commentary supplied. Fleet Management • Engage fleet suppliers to maintain optimal fleet uptime and ensure compliance with the Road Traffic Act. • Monitor and manage key fleet performance indicators, with a focus on maintaining service excellence for modern trade and export markets/customers. • Ensure timely delivery to modern trade and export customers, balancing efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Governance • Manage BevCo’s assets responsible to extend their useful life. • Review and sign off the necessary internal governance processes. • Ensure that physical Inventory levels are reflected accordingly in the ERP. • Ensure that BevCo’s is represented correctly. Inventory and Warehouse Management • Oversee the warehouse and forecasting processes to ensure stock availability and quality for modern trade and exports. • Conduct random truck counts to monitor effectiveness of internal controls. • Engage with Manufacturing to ensure plans are in place to meet OTIF targets for modern trade and export markets. • Manage inventory postings to minimise losses and optimise working capital while meeting the unique requirements of modern trade and export markets. 3rd Party Management • Contractors and Distributors managed against the Service Level agreement • Ensure Contractor and Distributor alignment to business strategy • Create an engaging environment to foster business partnerships and good relations • Continuously engage Contractors and Distributors to extract maximum productivity responsibly • Minimise use of temporary service providers and manage within relevant legislation Enhance People Capability • Ensure that BevCo’s strategic goals are communicated and understood by all employees and contractors. • Employees are managed in accordance with the Performance Management philosophy. • Provide on-the-job coaching and mentoring to promote continuous improvement. • Manage employees to maintain a healthy Industrial Relations climate. • Employee punctuality, Time and Attendance are managed to meet operational requirements within budget confines. • Ensure all employees are conversant/compliant with relevant business information, policies, processes, and procedures. Qualifications and Experience • 3-year tertiary qualification. • 3-5 years FMCG management experience. • Experience with dealing directly with major modern trade customers (Shoprite /Checkers/PicknPay/Spar etc). • Proficient in Microsoft Excel/Office. • Good ERP proficiency especially SAP. • Knowledge of relevant legislation. • Knowledge of Customer Service principles and best practice. • Strong Financial Management experience.
