CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

To teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the Afrikaans Section Studies, with a focus on professional communication modules in Afrikaans

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

The key performance areas for this post are to:

  • Facilitate the teaching and learning processes, practices and research in the department especially in the fields of teaching Afrikaans (non-mother tongue speakers) and Afrikaans for the profession.
  • Use online blended learning tools in the fields of teaching and researching professional communication in Afrikaans
  • Participate in engagement within the university and wider community.
  • Potential to supervise postgraduate students (honours and /or MA).
  • Develop local and globally relevant course and module content in collaboration with staff in the department and across faculties.
  • Develop innovative assessment instruments.
  • Contribute to the creation of knowledge through research and publication in accredited journals.
  • Perform administrative duties relevant to the portfolio.

CORE COMPETENCIES

 

Core competencies for this post include:

  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of professional communication in Afrikaans.
  • Experience in facilitating learning in the fields of Afrikaans at undergraduate level.
  • Experience in the use of embedding digital technology as tools within the fields of Afrikaans.
  • Lecturing experience of at least one year in higher education at undergraduate level (as tutor or lecturer).
  • Ability to contribute towards transformative curricula.
  • Potential to conduct research.
  • Excellent communication proficiency in Afrikaans (written and spoken).
 

REQUIREMENTS

 

To be considered for appointment to this post, candidates must have:

  • Honours degree in Afrikaans, but preferably a master’s degree in Afrikaans.
  • Relevant professional registration serves as a strong recommendation.
  • Knowledge of discipline specific requirements.
  • Lecturing experience of at least one year in a tertiary institution at undergraduate level, as tutor or lecturer.
